Built Up Roofing

A built-up roof (BUR) consists of multiple plies of roof felts laminated together with bitumen.  A surfacing material is typically applied which generally consists of gravel or asphalt.

Built-up roofing is one of the oldest and most reliable ways of installing a new roof.  It dates back to the mid 1840's as a means to provide a roofing solution.  There are three basic components when it comes to BUR.  They include:

  • Waterproofing
  • Reinforcing
  • Surfacing
