A ballasted roofing system typically contains rock or gravel on top of
a flat or low slope roof. The coarse gravel or rock used is
laid to form a bed of protection and insulation on the roof
top.
Studies have shown that a ballasted
system with a weight of 15 psf or greater is a highly effective roofing
system.
